Abstract

The present study attempts to explore the social issues arising from the ongoing urban transformation in Madurai. The study explores the dynamics of demographic shifts, housing challenges, income inequality, and environmental concerns prompted by economic expansion and infrastructural advancements in Madurai. Utilising comprehensive datasets provided by the Madurai Municipal Corporation, the study analyses poverty, homelessness, and the socio-economic landscape to analyse the complexities of urban development. The research emphasises the interconnectedness of social problems and urban transformation, stressing the need for inclusive, participatory decision-making processes to address disparities.
